Do you have ideas for what needs to change in your community?
almost 3 years agoThe following activities have already begun by working with local residents:
Dan Ingrejialmost 3 years agoCitizens Advice Bureau (CAB)
There is a real need for information to help people navigate through the bureaucracy of local and central government as well as signposting for issues such as debt. A CAB desk with maybe an interview cabin would be helpful to the community. This suggestion would be relevant for all the hubs.

Lovely to meet you Shiyara at the Barley Lane Community Festival. I’m a mum of 2, and I mentioned that it would be great to have creative workshops for kids/adults locally. Or sport opportunities for kids. Anything fun to encourage them to be active and get them away from screens! Thanks

In schools, there is generally an attempt to prepare people for the outside world but I rarely see things such as cv writing and interview prep outside of elite uni preparation. Things such as email etiquette, how to write a cover letter or even financial advice are glossed over or not mentioned at all, and as someone who just entered the working world and had to write my CV with my sister's help 30 minutes before applying, these are things that need to be discussed. I was hoping for either week-long events that take place in holiday periods, or once-a-week courses that take place over a term, that give young people these skills with real-world feedback from people who have been on either end of these situations. While my focus isn’t career advice and is much more general, the ability to direct people to other resources for that would be great, as career prep and resource documents are things I frequently create for my friends who are struggling to find information on their own career pathways. There’s a range of rarely spoken about options for people that should be shared openly, and I believe this would be the space for it.
